24:6 He passed away ¹  and his son Jehoiachin replaced him as king.

2 Raja-raja 24:14-15

24:14 He deported all the residents of Jerusalem, including all the officials and all the soldiers (10,000 people in all). This included all the craftsmen and those who worked with metal. No one was left except for the poorest among the people of the land. 24:15 He deported Jehoiachin from Jerusalem to Babylon, along with the king’s mother and wives, his eunuchs, and the high-ranking officials of the land. ²

24:2 The Lord sent against him Babylonian, Syrian, Moabite, and Ammonite raiding bands; he sent them to destroy Judah, as he had warned he would do through his servants the prophets. ³ 

2 Raja-raja 1:9-10

1:9 The king ⁴  sent a captain and his fifty soldiers ⁵  to retrieve Elijah. ⁶  The captain ⁷  went up to him, while he was sitting on the top of a hill. ⁸  He told him, “Prophet, ⁹  the king says, ‘Come down!’” 1:10 Elijah replied to the captain, ¹⁰  “If I am indeed a prophet, may fire come down from the sky and consume you and your fifty soldiers!” Fire then came down ¹¹  from the sky and consumed him and his fifty soldiers.

Elijah Confronts the King and His Commanders

1:1 After Ahab died, Moab rebelled against Israel. ¹²

[1:10]  ¹¹ tn Wordplay contributes to the irony here. The king tells Elijah to “come down” (Hebrew יָרַד, yarad), but Elijah calls fire down (יָרַד) on the arrogant king’s officer.
